Hundreds turn out for Limestone Capital Half Marathon and 5K

BEDFORD — More than 400 runners and walkers filled the streets of Bedford on Saturday, October 4, for the annual McIntyre Bros Limestone Capital Half Marathon, 5K, and Family Mile Run, celebrating fitness, community, and fall spirit in Lawrence County.

A total of 414 participants took part in this year’s races, with 77 competing in the Half Marathon, 284 in the 5K, and 53 in the 1-Mile Family Run.

Parkview Elementary School claimed victory in this year’s School Challenge, recognizing the school with the highest number of participants.

Runners traveled from across the country to take part in the Bedford tradition. The majority hailed from Indiana, but others came from Illinois, Ohio, Texas, Florida, Delaware, California, New York, North Carolina, and Michigan — totaling participants from nine different states.

Bedford’s very own McIntyre Bros presented the event. It included the Bedford Federal Savings Bank Limestone Capital Half Marathon Expo, where participants picked up their race materials, registered to win free race merchandise, and donated gently used shoes to benefit local shelters.

Final fundraising totals for the event are still being calculated, but proceeds will once again support local youth programs provided by the Bedford Parks Department.
