Seymour to celebrate 159th Anniversary of First Train Robbery with Mural Ribbon Cutting

SEYMOUR History and art come together in downtown Seymour on Monday, October 6, 2025, as the community gathers to unveil a new mural honoring the 159th anniversary of the first train robbery in U.S. history.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m. at 105 W. Second St., and everyone is invited to attend. The striking mural, created by local artist Jamie Harris, vividly depicts the infamous train robbery carried out by the Reno Gang — a moment in time that forever linked Seymour to America’s outlaw past.

The mural not only pays tribute to the city’s history but also adds to the growing collection of public art downtown, enhancing Seymour’s cultural landscape and drawing residents and visitors alike to pause, reflect, and connect with the past.

“This mural represents more than just a crime story from the 1800s,” organizers said. “It reflects Seymour’s place in history and how our community continues to honor, preserve, and share that story with future generations.”

The project was made possible through the support of community partners, including BSM Groups LLC, the City of Louisville, Jackson County, Seymour Main Street, and others, who worked together to bring Harris’s vision to life.

The public is encouraged to attend this free event, enjoy the artwork, and celebrate a story that continues to intrigue more than a century and a half later.
