SELLERSBURG — The Sellersburg Police Department has issued a reminder to motorists regarding the laws for stopping for school buses, emphasizing different requirements based on roadway types.
For two-lane roadways, if a school bus stops and activates its red flashing lights and extends its stop arm, all motorists are required to stop.

On multi-lane roadways with no barrier between lanes, the same rule applies: all motorists must stop when a school bus activates its red flashing lights and extends its stop arm.
However, on multi-lane roadways with a grassy or concrete barrier, only vehicles traveling behind the school bus are required to stop when the red flashing lights are activated and the stop arm is extended. Vehicles approaching from the opposite side of the barrier are not required to stop.
Police urge drivers to exercise caution and be aware of these regulations to ensure student safety as the school year approaches.
