SEYMOUR– The Seymour Fire Department has dedicated its newest ladder truck, Ladder 3, as ‘Maverick’ in a poignant tribute to Maverick Lee Flinn, the 4-year-old son of Seymour firefighter Mitchell Flinn and grandson of Lieutenant Craig Flinn. Maverick tragically passed away in an unexpected farm accident on June 23, 2025.

The naming was announced during a traditional “push-in” ceremony held on July 15, 2025, to introduce the new ladder truck to the City of Seymour. Fire Chief Eric Roll and Assistant Chief Anthony Walker officially unveiled the designation.
“This ladder truck has been named Maverick in honor of Maverick Lee Flinn. A young soul whose life ended far too soon,” stated Assistant Chief Walker. “Maverick was part of our family through his father, Mitchell, and his grandfather, Craig — both proud members of the Seymour Fire Department. As this truck rolls out on future calls, it will carry Maverick’s name and spirit with it, reminding us of the love, strength, and resilience of this family and this community.”

In the wake of the tragedy, Maverick’s family has launched the “Maverick Minute” awareness initiative. This campaign urges farmers to PAUSE, LOOK AROUND, AND STAY SAFE to prevent similar accidents. The Seymour Fire Department has embraced this message, applying the “Maverick Minute” concept to various aspects of daily life and safety.

The department respectfully asks the public that when they see “Maverick” (Ladder 3) responding to a call with lights and sirens, they “take a Maverick Minute” to yield and protect both themselves and first responders safely. As the department expressed, “Maverick has work to do!”
