ST. JOSEPH CO. – The Indiana State Police have been requested to investigate after an inmate was found unresponsive in a cell early this morning at the St. Joseph County Jail.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 3:15 a.m. on July 13, 2025, jail staff discovered a female inmate who was unresponsive in her cell. They immediately began life-saving measures until EMTs could arrive. The inmate, Janette Navarro, 28 of South Bend, was pronounced deceased at the jail.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday, July 15, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.
The family of Navarro has been notified.
