WASHINGTON – The Daviess County Museum is set to delve into the early history of the region this summer, welcoming Knox County Historian Dennis Latta for a free presentation on the 1788 Vincennes Donation Lands. The event will take place on Saturday, July 12, at 6 p.m. at the museum.

Latta’s presentation will shed light on a pivotal moment in local history: how the United States Congress granted 400 acres of land to French families in the Vincennes area. This significant act played a crucial role in shaping the early settlement patterns of both Knox and Daviess Counties.

This upcoming talk is part of the Daviess County Museum’s ongoing “Struggle for Liberty” series, a collection of programs designed to commemorate the America 250 celebration. The series aims to explore key historical events and figures that contributed to the development of American liberty and the region.
The “Struggle for Liberty” series will conclude on September 13th with a final program that focuses on the historical figures of William Henry Harrison and Tecumseh, as well as the pivotal Battle of Tippecanoe.
The Daviess County Museum invites the public to attend a free and informative presentation by Dennis Latta, offering a unique opportunity to learn more about the area’s foundational history.
