Cave River Valley Day set for June 21 with guided hikes, wildflowers, and cave tours

MITCHELL — Outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike are invited to explore one of Indiana’s hidden natural treasures during Cave River Valley Day on Friday, June 21, 2025, hosted by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Located in a rugged and primitive area with no restrooms or amenities, Cave River Valley offers a scenic backdrop for a day of hikes, nature education, and historical discovery. Attendees are encouraged to bring water, snacks, bug spray, and water-friendly footwear due to creek bed crossings.

Schedule of Events:

  • 9–10 a.m.History and Welcome Table: Explore old photos and local stories.
  • 10 a.m.Wildflowers of CRV: Join invasive species specialist David Mow from Morgan County SWCD for a 90-minute hike.
  • 11:30 a.m.CRV History Hike: Learn about past residents and historic structures on a 90-minute guided walk.
  • 2 p.m.Endless Cave Tour: A 2-hour cave exploration requiring pre-registration.

Endless Cave Tour Information:

Spring Mill State Park offers the Endless Cave Tour, which is open to participants ages 14 and older and limited to 20 people. The cost is $20 per person, and advance registration is required. To book your spot, email nlahue@dnr.in.gov or call (812) 849-3435 by Friday, June 20.
