Fayetteville Baptist Church to celebrate Pastor Kenny Walden’s retirement after 36 years of service

After more than three decades of heartfelt ministry, Pastor Kenny Walden of Fayetteville Baptist Church is preparing for retirement. Pastor Kenny has served the Fayetteville community for 36 years, offering spiritual guidance, support, and leadership that have left a lasting mark on generations of church members and families in the area.

Pastor Kenny graduated from Bob Jones University in 1978. Following graduation, he served as associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Westwood Lake in Miami, Florida, from 1978 to 1989. In 1989, he became the senior pastor of Fayetteville Baptist Church, where he has remained ever since, committed to leading with faith, compassion, and a deep dedication to his congregation.

“Kenny Walden is the real deal. He is the same behind the pulpit and in between the church walls as he is in person. He has provided our community with sound doctrine in his teaching and preaching.” reflected Pam Younger.

To honor his decades of service, the church will host a public open house on Saturday, August 2, from 1-4pm at Fayetteville Baptist Church. The event will give friends, family, former congregants, and community members a chance to express their appreciation and celebrate Pastor Kenny’s retirement milestone.

Organizers are encouraging anyone who has been impacted by Pastor Kenny’s ministry to attend the event and share their memories. They are also seeking photos of Pastor Kenny in action: preaching, praying, visiting with the community, or simply being a part of church life. These images may be used to help tell the story of his enduring legacy. Community members can also check the church’s Facebook page for updates and photos already shared by others.

As Pastor Kenny prepares to step into retirement, the Fayetteville Baptist Church congregation reflects on his compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to faith and service. His retirement marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter, not just for him, but for the church community as well.

“He has pastored, led, and sacrificially served not only his congregation, but the whole community. My husband and I praise the Lord for such a great and gifted leader as well as a dear friend.” added Younger.

“When I reflect upon the 36 years I have had the honor of shepherding the flock of Fayetteville Baptist Church, there are such great memories. Back in March of 1989 when we arrived here I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, and the members of the church really had no idea what they were getting, but it was a great match and the Lord blessed. I am extremely thankful for the people of this body of believers they have been a group that loves the Lord and each other. They have a hunger for the Word and it is a joy to preach the Word to them. The Bible is our sole authority for teaching and practice. The folks of Fayetteville Baptist have been so good to my family. They have supported, encouraged, and gotten involved in work here. It is easy to stay for a long tenure when the people have been so good to us. Fayetteville Baptist is not just a congregation that I have had the privilege to pastor all these years, but they are family!” said Pastor Kenny.
