SCOTTSBURG– A K-9 with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office has been placed out of service following an incident Friday morning in which the dog became aggressive and attacked its handler.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Zachary Brown was tending to his assigned K-9 partner, Zeus, when the dog suddenly turned on him. The attack resulted in bite and scratch injuries to Deputy Brown, who was subsequently transported to Norton’s Hospital in Scott County for treatment and has since been released.
Zeus was subdued after the incident and will now be placed in quarantine for ten days. Sheriff Jerry Goodin has also ordered that Zeus undergo a veterinary examination to determine if any underlying health issues may have contributed to the dog’s aggressive behavior.
Sheriff Goodin stated that Zeus will remain out of service pending further information gathered from the quarantine period and the veterinary assessment. The Sheriff’s Office released a statement to inform the public about matters affecting the department.
