Indiana Department of Education to host webinar on early literacy for families

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Education is offering an upcoming live webinar, “Beyond Storytime: Everyday Ways to Build Literacy at Home,” designed to provide families with practical strategies to support early literacy development.

The webinar will feature author Maya Smart, who wrote “Reading for Our Lives: A Literacy Action Plan From Birth to Six.” Smart will share simple, everyday techniques that parents and caregivers can incorporate into their routines and conversations to nurture their child’s language and reading skills. According to the department, no special materials or books are necessary for these strategies.

The session is particularly geared towards families with children from birth through second grade and will include interactive prompts, real-life examples, and resources for continued learning at home.

The live webinar is scheduled for Monday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time and will be held in the Indiana Learning Lab. While the announcement did not specify if registration is required in the provided text, it directed individuals to see registration details via a QR code on the accompanying image.
