BEDFORD – The Bedford Altrusa Club marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 75th anniversary at the April 14 meeting held at the Southland Church of Christ. The gathering was made special with refreshments provided by Tammy Harrell and Karen Weaver.

Continuing their long-standing tradition of community support, Altrusa members engaged in several impactful initiatives. Donna Rainey crafted thoughtful Easter baskets for the residents of Core Nursing Home, bringing a touch of cheer during the holiday season. Loretta Bailey demonstrated her ongoing commitment by delivering a generous supply of 20 magazines to each of six local nursing homes. During the meeting, Bailey also shared heartfelt thank-you notes received from Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Becky’s Place, and the NL Scholarship Program, highlighting the positive impact of Altrusa’s contributions.
Looking ahead, Altrusa members are set to volunteer their time and skills with SOAR modules at LARC on Wednesdays and Fridays, which will further support educational opportunities in the community. The club also recently lent a helping hand at Agape House, where members helped sort children’s clothing.
Mary Barnes circulated a sign-up sheet for upcoming volunteer opportunities at the Lawrence County Museum, encouraging members to engage with local history and culture. In other news, Sammie Polley reported that the club is nearing its ambitious goal of collecting 4300 pounds of caps for the city pool equipment project, with a deadline of May 20th.
Altrusa’s commitment to community health was also evident through their sponsorship of a table at the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services Tea, scheduled for April 26th.

Demonstrating a spirit of collaboration and practical support, Jaron Lane generously volunteered his labor to construct a raised garden bed for the residents of Stonebridge Health Campus. Lane and fellow Altrusa members successfully delivered the garden bed on April 4th, providing residents with an opportunity to engage with nature.
Bill Barnes adjourned the meeting. The next Altrusa Club meeting is scheduled for May 12th at 5:30 p.m. at the Southland Church of Christ.
