Nominations open for Human Rights Award

BLOOMINGTON – The Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Commission (BMCHRC) is seeking nominations for the 2025 Human Rights Award, which honors an individual or organization for meritorious service improving civil rights, human relations, or civility in our community. The awards have recognized numerous recipients since 1997.

Nominations are accepted at bton.in/HRA and must be submitted by May 1, 2025, at 5 p.m. Nominees must be residents of or organizations within Bloomington or unincorporated areas of Monroe County.

The BMCHRC especially welcomes nominations of those who ensure rights to equal access in our community, celebrate Bloomington and Monroe County in all its diversity, or advocate for greater civility and stronger connections. Nominations may be based on a legacy of work supporting human rights or specific projects undertaken in 2024.

The mission of the BMCHRC is to enforce the Bloomington/Monroe County Human Rights Ordinance fairly and timely, educate community members about their rights and responsibilities under various civil rights laws, and advocate for changes in policies and laws.
