BEDFORD – A comedy fundraiser held on August 2nd successfully raised $10,006 for the White River Humane Society. The event, Comedy to the Rescue, sold out its ticket allotment and generated additional funds through silent auction bids and direct donations.

The silent auction was a real highlight of the evening, raising thousands for the Humane Society. Items were generously donated from local volunteers and various items ensured that every animal lover could bid on something.

Despite the successful fundraiser, the shelter faces ongoing financial challenges. Over $10,000 in bills were written on Monday, August 5th, covering essential expenses like veterinary care, medications, and facility maintenance.
“While we’re grateful for the community’s support, the reality is that running an animal shelter is costly,” said Sarah Turpen, the development director. “We operate at a net loss and constantly balance the need to care for animals with financial constraints.”
The shelter does not profit from animal adoptions and often faces difficult decisions about intake capacity due to limited resources. Increasing adoption fees could deter potential adopters and lead to longer animal shelter stays.
812 BBQ provided dinner for the event, with desserts from Magic Morning Bakery and Sweet Cakes Bakery.
