Lawrence County Treasurer reminds property owners of November 10 tax deadline

LAWRENCE COUNTY – Lawrence County Treasurer Penny Cobb is reminding taxpayers that the fall installment tax payment is due Tuesday, November 10, 2026.

The Treasurer’s Office will be open Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for those who would like to pay taxes in person. While not required, bringing your tax statements will provide a speedier process.

The office will accept cash, checks, or money orders in the office. You may pay by credit or debit by calling the toll-free number below or using the tax payment website. Current tax and credit card payment information may be found online at this website. Credit and debit card payments are not accepted in the office.

Questions regarding your assessed value and available appeal options for this tax year or next tax year should be directed to the Assessor’s Office at 812-275-5405; regarding your property tax deductions and tax bill calculations, to the Auditor’s Office at 812-275-3111; or regarding payment for your property tax bill, to the Treasurer’s Office at 812-275-2431.

You will also have the option of using our payment drop box, which will be located outside of the Treasurer’s office door. Remember that if you choose to come to our office, you will need to go through the security screening. If you choose to use the drop box option, please place your payment coupon along with your payment in an envelope, along with contact information in case we need to contact you. If you drop off or mail your tax payment and would like a paid receipt, then you will need to insert a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment, and we will mail it back to you.

If you decide to mail your payment to the office, please take it to the post office and have them postmark the date on it. Any mail payments that come in after the November 10th deadline don’t have a postmark on or before November 10th will be considered as late payments. Unfortunately, there has been a large amount of mail that comes into our office with no postmarks on them, or it doesn’t get postmarked until it goes through the Indianapolis post office.

As a reminder, the Treasurer’s Office will not be open on November 11th for Veterans Day, and so no one will be in the office for phone calls. The office will be closed to the public starting November 12th for two weeks while processing all on-time mail payments. The office will be open on Wednesday, November 30th. You may still call the office during this time if you have any questions.

If you received a demand notice in Early October for delinquent personal property taxes from last year, you will need to contact American Financial Credit Services, Inc. at 888-317-2327 Ext. 1. The office no longer uses Eagle accounts to collect delinquent personal property taxes.

The office at 916 15th Street is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or call 812-275-2431.
