BEDFORD – The Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic is a cornerstone sporting event in our area, not only encouraging friendly competition but also supporting our local community. The Board of Directors of Bedford Recreation Foundation, Inc. issued heartfelt thanks to the participants, sponsors, and volunteers for their support and investment in our community’s future:
On behalf of the Bedford Recreation Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, we would like to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation to all the sponsors, participants, and volunteers “past and present” for their incredible generosity and support for this organization’s annual fundraiser, held each Labor Day weekend at Bedford’s beautiful Otis Park Golf Course.
Because of you, the tournament was again a big success, tying our largest field of golfers ever, with 672 golfers participating.
BRF awarded a record number of prizes to participants and raised $60,000. While we strive to provide a first-class golf tournament for everyone to enjoy, the unselfish giving by all of you; whether monetary, your time, or both, has allowed us to continue to be in a position to make improvements in our city parks, provide scholarships at BNL High School, and contribute to many other projects and programs involving recreation in our community.
So far, BRF has already put some of the proceeds to work in the past week with donations to the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County, the Lawrence County Aquatics Youth Swim Club, and the Knights of Columbus, just to name a few.
Additionally, this year we were able to hold a special first-time contest with high-value prizes, giving participants a chance to win while contributing to the American Red Cross in conjunction with the Helping Hoosiers Program to assist victims of this past summer’s floods.
With your generous support, you are not only helping support the projects mentioned above, but future important and worthwhile projects as well.
We look forward to next year, as BRF is already planning and funding more improvements in 2027.
The Bedford Recreation Foundation has raised nearly $1.2 million from the Claude Akins Memorial Golf Classic over the last 29 tournaments in 31 years.
Again, on behalf of the Board, we thank you for your continued support and acknowledge the role you have played in making this tournament a huge success, enabling us to continue providing substantial contributions to Otis Park and the community.
