Yorktown man arrested after allegedly holding victim captive, assaulting them for days

YORKTOWN — A 39-year-old Yorktown man is behind bars facing multiple felony charges after police say he held a victim captive inside a residence for days, physically assaulting them repeatedly and committing sexual assault.

Tyson Brownlee

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Delaware County, Tyson Brownlee was booked into the Delaware County Jail on Thursday following a harrowing multi-day ordeal that ended when the victim managed to lock the suspect out of the house and flee.

Brownlee is currently facing preliminary charges including rape, a Level 3 felony, criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony, battery, and interference with reporting a crime.

Court documents outline a chilling timeline that began during a social gathering. On Sunday, the victim noticed Brownlee exhibiting concerning and erratic behavior during a birthday party. According to the affidavit, Brownlee fluctuated wildly between coldness, unusually high energy, and extreme lethargy while sweating excessively, leading the victim to suspect he was under the influence of illegal narcotics. An argument between the two followed the party.

By Monday night, Brownlee’s behavior had reportedly deteriorated further. He became heavily accusatory toward the victim and at one point, alleged that the victim was a witch and began blocking them from leaving the residence.

The captivity continued into Wednesday, with Brownlee physically barring the victim from exiting the home’s bedroom throughout the day. Whenever the victim attempted to escape, Brownlee struck them. Investigators later learned that Brownlee physically assaulted the victim roughly 10 to 15 times over the course of the confinement. During the ordeal, Brownlee also allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.

The multi-day nightmare came to an end on Thursday. The victim woke up to find that Brownlee had briefly left the house before returning. Brownlee realized he had left his cell phone at a store, prompting the two to get into a car to search for it.

After driving around Yorktown and returning to the residence, the victim spotted the phone inside the home and quickly threw it out the front door. As Brownlee stepped outside to retrieve the device, the victim slammed the doors and locked all windows.

While Brownlee aggressively banged on the doors and windows trying to force his way back inside, the victim managed to break free, get to their vehicle, and escape the property.

Law enforcement officers responding to the incident observed significant bruising across the victim’s body, which heavily corroborated the accounts of physical abuse.

Brownlee was taken into custody on Thursday and booked into the Delaware County Jail.
