BEDFORD — Indiana’s housing market is pacing for its strongest performance in four years, according to the Bedford Board of Realtors. Data released in the Mid-Year Market Report shows both closed home sales and new listings through the first six months of 2026 are on track to mark the best calendar year for real estate activity since 2022.

According to the Indiana Association of Realtors, closed sales reached 38,971 across the state between January and June 2026—a 2.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Pending sales also posted growth, rising 3% year-over-year to 44,676 transactions.
Inventory expanded across the state as well, with 54,106 new listings hitting the market—a 5% jump compared to the first half of last year.
Home prices across Indiana continued an upward trajectory:
- Statewide Median Price: The year-to-date median sale price rose to $275,000, representing a 5% year-over-year increase.
- Peak Monthly Median: Home prices peaked in June at a monthly median of $290,000.
- List Price Retention: Sellers received approximately 96% of their original list price, maintaining consistency with performance levels seen in 2025.
Real Estate Licensing System Glitches Prompt Deadline Extensions
While the market experiences strong activity, Indiana real estate professionals faced administrative hurdles during the recent license renewal period due to technical difficulties, periodic outages, and user confusion surrounding the Professional Licensing Agency’s (PLA) MyLicense portal.
In response to the portal issues, the PLA extended the official license renewal deadline to July 15th for brokers who received notice that system issues prevented them from renewing prior to the original July 1st deadline.
The PLA also disclosed that a temporary technical glitch occurred over the weekend of June 27–28, which caused some submitted renewals to fail to register properly in the agency’s new system. Although officials have worked to resolve the glitch and update records, state administrators advise real estate brokers who submitted renewals near the end of June to double-check their online status to ensure their licensure remains active and compliant.
