SANTA CLAUS — A 70-year-old man who collapsed and died at Holiday World earlier this summer did not die from heatstroke, according to the Dubois County Coroner.
Dubois County Coroner Katie Schuck confirmed Michael Newman died of natural causes stemming from coronary artery atherosclerosis, a condition of plaque buildup in the arteries supplying blood to the heart. Schuck confirmed that heat was not a contributing factor in Newman’s death.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the amusement park on June 30 following reports of a man possibly suffering from heatstroke after Newman collapsed. He was transported to a local hospital and later died.
Following the incident, Schuck clarified that Newman had not died as a result of riding any attractions at the park.
