BLOOMINGTON — Sycamore Land Trust has announced the appointment of Hannah Hirsch as its new Development Director. Hirsch brings over a decade of nonprofit fundraising and community engagement experience to the regional conservation organization.

Hannah Hirsch

A Bloomington native with deep community ties, Hirsch will lead fundraising initiatives and strengthen relationships with supporters who fund Sycamore’s land protection, habitat restoration, and environmental education efforts.

Hirsch’s career spans previous roles with the Indiana University Foundation, Girls Inc. of Monroe County, United Way of South Central Indiana, and other local nonprofit organizations. In these positions, she focused on building strong connections with donors, volunteers, and community leaders to support local causes.

“Sycamore Land Trust is fortunate to have hired a seasoned development professional in Hannah Hirsch. We are excited to welcome her into the fold and look forward to an amazing new era of nurturing existing relationships within the Sycamore family as well as building many new relationships,” said Alex Sienkiewicz, Sycamore’s Executive Director.

Deep Local Roots and Community Service

Hirsch graduated from Indiana University and describes herself as a “Bloomington townie, community fundraiser, and enthusiastic believer in the people and places that make southern Indiana special.” After living in Belgium for several years with her husband, the couple returned to Bloomington in 2018.

Her community involvement includes service with the Bloomington Rotary Club, the Local Council of Women in Bloomington, and Leadership Bloomington-Monroe County, where she previously served as Board Chair.

“This great Hoosier state of Indiana is home, and I can’t imagine a more meaningful job than inviting people to fall in love with it, invest in it, and help protect it for the people who will call it home long after us,” Hirsch said.

As Development Director, Hirsch will oversee Sycamore’s overall fundraising strategy, deepen relationships with current members, and connect new donors with opportunities to protect southern Indiana’s forests, wetlands, and wildlife habitats.

Her experience in philanthropic partnerships will support key projects, including the Carl Ziegler Wetlands and Education Center. This landmark facility will serve as a permanent base for Sycamore’s environmental education programs and expand accessible nature experiences for people of all ages and abilities.

Outside of her professional work, Hirsch and her husband raise their three young children along with geese, chickens, bees, and sheep on their homestead.
