Mitchell Community Schools Board to discuss new adult learning opportunity and athletic director contract at tonight’s meeting

MITCHELL — The Mitchell Community Schools Board of Trustees will convene for its regular session tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the MCS Administration Office.

Topping the agenda for discussion is a presentation by Mr. Dan Bortner and Mrs. Cathy Bullington from the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council regarding a proposed Adult Learning Opportunity.

In addition to the discussion item, the board’s action items cover a wide array of administrative, personnel, and operational matters. Key business slated for consideration includes:

  • Contract Extension: Review and potential approval of a one-year contract extension for the district’s Athletic Director.
  • Agricultural Education Expansion: Consideration of new agriculture courses and course descriptions at Mitchell High School, along with the approval of the Agriculture Education Advisory Board Articles of Operation and the Mitchell FFA Chapter Bylaws.
  • Policy & Equipment: Consideration of NEOLA policy updates as presented, alongside a recommendation to declare various obsolete cafeteria items—including commercial ovens, a deep fryer, and a 60-quart floor mixer—surplus.
  • Personnel & Donations: Review of various personnel appointments, extracurricular sponsorships, and the formal acceptance of donations from Carters Creek Christian Church, Kirk Veterinary Service, and El Compadre.

The meeting opens with routine consent agenda approvals, covering financial reports, claims, field trip requests, and recent resignations. An executive session is scheduled immediately following the adjournment of the regular meeting.
