Daviess County Rural Water Systems to Begin Annual Fall Flushing Monday

WASHINGTON — Daviess County Rural Water Systems, Inc. will launch its annual fall water main flushing program on Monday, October 19. Crews will continue work across the utility’s distribution network until all lines have been cleared.

The routine flushing process is part of regular utility maintenance designed to scour water mains, clear mineral deposits and sediment, and ensure high water quality and fire protection standards for customers across Daviess and Martin counties.

Flushing Schedule and Service Areas

Maintenance crews will cover both northern and southern service sections:

  • Southern Service Area: Crews will begin at Bussard Road and proceed southbound.
  • Northern Service Area: Flushing will begin at County Road 100 North and move northbound.

What Customers Can Expect

During the flushing process, residents and businesses in active work zones may experience minor, temporary service disruptions:

  • Pressure Drops: Customers may notice temporary periods of lower-than-normal water pressure while hydrant flushing is actively taking place nearby.
  • Water Discoloration: Short-term discoloration or sediment stir-up in tap water can occur following line clearing.

Customer Advisory: If discolored water occurs, residents are advised to run cold water from an outdoor spigot or lower level faucet for several minutes until the water runs clear. Utility officials recommend avoiding laundry or hot water usage during periods of active flushing to prevent sediment from entering home water heaters or staining clothing.
