Briscoe bounces back from heartbreak to claim South Point 400 Victory in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — One week after a devastating late-race loss at Kansas Speedway, Mitchell, Indiana native Chase Briscoe delivered a dominant performance Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, holding off a furious late charge from Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick, and Bubba Wallace to capture the South Point 400.

Driving the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, Briscoe put together a flawless afternoon. He swept both initial stages and led a race-high 175 of 267 laps around the 1.5-mile intermediate oval, fending off high-line pressure from Larson on the final lap.

Larson, who scraped the outside wall on the final lap trying to chase down the lead, crossed the line 1.376 seconds behind Briscoe to finish second. Reddick finished third, followed by Austin Cindric and Ryan Blaney rounding out the top five.

The victory marks the seventh Cup Series win of Briscoe’s career and his second of the 2026 season.

Redemption After Kansas Heartbreak

Sunday’s triumph served as sweet redemption for the Hoosier State driver. Just seven days earlier at Kansas Speedway, Briscoe had overtaken Larson for the lead late in the race, only to watch Larson rally back and make a pass with just seven laps remaining to steal the victory.

At Las Vegas, Briscoe ensured history would not repeat itself. While Larson and Reddick mounted an aggressive charge in the closing laps, Briscoe maintained his line and managed traffic cleanly through the checkered flag.

“To bounce back after what happened at Kansas means everything to this team,” Briscoe said following the post-race inspection, which confirmed his win. “We knew we had a car fast enough to win, and to execute like we did today—sweeping the stages and leading all those laps—is a huge statement.”

Championship Standings Impact

The maximum-points performance—bolstered by his stage sweep—provides a massive boost to Briscoe’s championship hopes as the 2026 postseason reaches its midpoint. The victory elevates Briscoe to sixth place in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.

With five races remaining in the season, Briscoe now trails championship leader Kyle Larson by 84 points as the series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the next leg of the postseason.
