SELLERSBURG – Bedford North Lawrence’s Paige Voigtschild finished second in the Hoosier Hills Conference race during girls high school cross country action on Saturday.
The Stars finished fourth in the team competition with 82 points. Floyd Central won the title with 33 points.
Voigtschild crossed the line in 18:40.58. Bloomington South’s Lexi Kollbaum was the winner in 18:29.24. South was allowed to compete, although the Panthers will not be official league members until next year.
Other top finishers for BNL included Claire Voigtschild (seventh in 19:11.93) and Ashlynn York (19th in 21:14.03).
“We were seeded fourth, but we finished much closer to third than predicted,” BNL coach Amy Greenan said. “We had PRs from every single girl, and I am so proud of all of them. Paige had an awesome kick to finish second, Claire was all-conference with her finish. They are all racing and competing, running smart and finishing strong. They are going to be peaking just in time for the tournament.”

In the boys race, BNL was seventh in the field with 126 points. South won the championship with 29 points.
Tate McFarland paced the Stars, finishing 19th in 17:25.12. Hayden Rich was 23rd in 17:35.68, and Eli McFarland was 33rd in 18:04.60.
“Overall, we have seen some consistent improvements among the team this week,” BNL coach Nick Boyd said. “There were several career personal records, which is nothing to complain about. We had a nice group of three boys up front that really worked together for the duration of the course. This was positive momentum as we move towards the IHSAA tournament.”
South’s Chase Norris was the individual winner in 15:37.09.
BNL will host the sectional on Oct. 17.
