WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University continues to earn national recognition for its academic programs, with several undergraduate programs reaching their highest rankings to date in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.
Purdue ranked No. 8 nationally for undergraduate engineering, No. 4 among public universities, and No. 8 overall in the Most Innovative Schools category.
The university also saw significant gains across several academic programs, including agricultural and biological engineering, which ranked No. 2 nationally; mechanical engineering at No. 4; materials engineering at No. 7; business analytics at No. 8; quantitative analysis at No. 10; computer science at No. 14; and artificial intelligence at No. 16.

Purdue’s focus on hands-on learning opportunities was also reflected in the rankings. The university ranked No. 6 nationally for internships and co-ops, while its learning communities ranked No. 9.
Purdue also earned numerous top 10 rankings across its STEM-related programs. Those included industrial engineering at No. 2, aeronautics and astronautics at No. 3, civil engineering at No. 4, production/operations management at No. 5, cybersecurity at No. 6, supply chain management/logistics at No. 9, computer engineering at No. 9, software engineering at No. 9 and electrical engineering at No. 10.
Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe said the university’s focus is on preparing students for changes in the workforce, particularly as artificial intelligence continues to influence the economy.
“At Purdue we strive first and foremost to prepare our students as leaders in a dynamic 21st century economy,” Wolfe said. “Our emphasis on leading programs across the STEM spectrum, coupled with experiential learning, helps make our nation’s workforce more competitive globally and demonstrates Purdue’s prominence among our peers.”
The 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings evaluated approximately 1,700 colleges and universities using up to 17 factors related to academic quality and graduate success.
Factors considered included retention and graduation rates, earnings by major, postgraduate earnings and other measures intended to help prospective students and families compare undergraduate programs.
The latest rankings add to Purdue’s growing list of nationally recognized programs while highlighting the university’s strengths in engineering, technology, business, agriculture and other STEM-related fields.
