Governor Braun delivers relief to veterans impacted by historic flooding

INDIANAPOLIS — Governor Mike Braun is delivering rapid, essential assistance to veterans impacted by the August severe weather through the Disaster Flood Emergency (DFE) program, carried out at the Governor’s direction by the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA).

Since activation, the DFE program has provided financial assistance to veteran households in ten counties, including Allen, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Lake, Madison, Porter, and Wayne. To date, IDVA has issued 31 awards totaling more than $158,000 to cover urgent needs, while another 13 applications representing about $50,000 in requested aid are advancing through the review process.

“These results reflect Indiana’s unwavering commitment to standing with our Hoosier veterans,” said Gov. Braun. “The program’s impact shows that Indiana is delivering the stability and resources our veterans deserve, and we will continue providing effective support as families recover.”

The DFE program ended Sept. 30. As recovery efforts continue, veterans who received DFE and veterans still in need of assistance may also apply for the Standard Military Family Relief Fund (MFRF). This option allows veterans and their families to access further assistance as they rebuild and regain stability following the severe weather events.

Veterans and their families may apply by visiting the MFRF Application Webpage or by contacting their local County Veteran Service Officer for guidance and support.

Indiana remains steadfast in ensuring every Hoosier veteran has access to essential resources during this challenging time. The state will continue to monitor needs, streamline processes, and deliver meaningful assistance to those who have served our nation.
