Governor Braun advances more housing options for Hoosier families; wins award for action on affordable housing

INDIANAPOLIS — Governor Mike Braun is advancing housing development across Indiana through the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) 2.0, with three major projects that broke ground this month expected to add at least 424 homes in Pike, Dearborn, and Marshall counties.

Governor Braun’s commitment to building more affordable housing for Hoosiers is drawing accolades. The Indiana Builders Association recently presented Governor Braun with the National Association of Home Builders’ Defender of Housing Award. The award recognizes elected officials who have demonstrated strong support for housing and issues facing the home building industry. Indiana Builders Association President Marcy DeShong presented the award in recognition of the Governor’s work with builders and housing advocates to address barriers to residential development and expand housing opportunities.

“Affordability is my top priority, and I am taking action to build more affordable housing for Hoosier families. In September alone, READI 2.0 has kickstarted three major housing developments in Pike, Dearborn, and Marshall counties, and I am cutting red tape and investing in affordable housing across the state to make life more affordable for Hoosier families,” said Governor Mike Braun.

In Petersburg, the $8.2 million Prides Creek Apartments development will add 64 one- and two-bedroom market-rate apartments in Pike County. The project was jump-started by a $1.475 million READI 2.0 investment.

In Greendale, the $35.6 million Copper Creek Apartments development will add 176 market-rate apartments on a site that has long been vacant. The project received a $2 million READI 2.0 investment, and pre-leasing is expected to begin in mid-2027.

In Bremen, the first phase of the $40 million GROWTH Project is underway. The development is expected to add approximately 184 housing units by 2028, alongside a new three-mile greenway connecting parks, schools, and future development sites. The broader initiative includes more than $3.7 million in READI 2.0 investment and will bring Bremen its first major housing development in more than 20 years.
