INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) honored 96 members of Indiana’s public safety community during its annual Traffic Safety All-Star Awards Ceremony on Friday. Indiana Governor Mike Braun shared a video at the event recognizing the awardees’ exceptional efforts to keep Hoosiers safe on the roadways.
“Protecting Hoosiers is one of the most important responsibilities of government,” said Gov. Braun. “The officers we’re recognizing today embody that mission. Their dedication, professionalism, and compassion set a standard that strengthens communities across the state.”
Awards were presented to law enforcement personnel who demonstrated outstanding performance in impaired driving enforcement and prevention in 2025, either through a high number of impaired driving arrests or through exceptional leadership in education, outreach, and prevention efforts.
Now in its seventh year, the Traffic Safety All-Star Awards recognize officers who go above and beyond in the fight against impaired driving. Through overtime patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and community engagements during holidays and peak travel periods, the honorees not only enforced Indiana’s traffic safety laws but also educated thousands of residents.
Their collective efforts in 2025 resulted in more than 4,300 Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) arrests. Combined with expanded prevention efforts, partnerships with local agencies, and enhanced public outreach, Indiana recorded its third consecutive year of declining traffic fatalities involving impaired drivers.
“Every impaired driver removed from the road represents a potential tragedy prevented,” said Douglas Huntsinger, ICJI executive director. “These officers work tirelessly—often at night, on weekends, and during high-risk periods—to safeguard the public. Their commitment makes this recognition meaningful and well-deserved.”
During the ceremony, Indiana State Police Trooper Aidan Baker received the MVP Award for leading the state with 150 OWI arrests in 2025. ICJI also inducted Officer Dave McVoy of the Markle Police Department and New Castle Chief of Police Matthew Schofield into the Indiana Traffic Safety Hall of Fame, recognizing their career-long leadership in impaired driving enforcement and prevention that has strengthened Indiana’s law enforcement community.
Additionally, 95 officers, including Trooper Baker and Officer McVoy, were named Traffic Safety All-Stars for making 25 or more OWI arrests in 2025.
