INDIANA – Nearly 1.7 million pounds of sugar, including products sold at Target, have been recalled in eight states, the Food and Drug Administration announced (FDA).
United Sugar Producers and Refiners initially recalled the powdered and brown sugar products in late August because they may contain wheat kernel, an undisclosed allergen. On Sept. 21, the FDA gave the recall the second-highest risk level, Class II, for a low chance of serious health consequences from the contaminated sugar but a possibility of temporary or reversible effects.

The recall includes five products, including two sold under the Good & Gather brand at Target:

The recalled sugar—totaling 1,694,300 pounds—was shipped to Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
What You Should Do
The FDA did not provide specific instructions, but as a Class II recall, the safest option is not to use the affected sugar—even if you don’t have a wheat allergy. Instead, toss or return the recalled sugar.
