BEAN BLOSSOM — Special enforcement operations by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department led to 23 arrests and dozens of law enforcement responses during a popular biannual drag racing event over the weekend.
Deputies were deployed to the Brown County Dragway on Gatesville Road to maintain public safety and deter criminal activity during the “War in the Woods No Prep” event. Law enforcement presence included enhanced traffic patrols on surrounding roadways as well as dedicated foot patrols stationed directly inside the facility to address calls for service.
Majority of Arrests Tied to Alcohol Offenses
Beginning Thursday and continuing through 6 a.m. Sunday, officers conducted targeted enforcement that yielded 23 arrests, the vast majority of which involved alcohol-related violations:
- Minor in Consumption of Alcohol: 15 arrests
- Minor Consuming Alcohol with a Fake ID: 2 arrests
- Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI): 2 arrests
- Additional Single Offenses: 1 arrest for minor possession of alcohol; 1 arrest for minor consumption of alcohol combined with possession of cocaine; 1 arrest for battery; 1 arrest for disorderly conduct; and 1 arrest for criminal trespass.
High Volume of Calls and Traffic Stops
In addition to the arrests made over the course of the weekend, deputies responded to approximately 64 calls for service and executed 23 traffic stops throughout the Bean Blossom area.
The “War in the Woods” event is a prominent 1/8th-mile “no prep” drag racing competition held twice annually at the Brown County Dragway, drawing drivers and large spectator crowds from across the region. Local authorities noted that the heightened police presence aimed to balance public safety with the high volume of visitors brought in by the event.
