Robert “Bob” Smith, 98, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford, Indiana. He was born on January 30, 1928, in South Whitley, Indiana, to Everett and Fannie (Fennig) Smith. He married Helen Marie (Henning) Smith on June 8, 1950, and she preceded him on February 15, 2022.
Bob retired as an Elementary Principal from Muncie Community Schools. He had a master’s degree in education and held a superintendent’s license. Bob was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford.
He loved working on his timber farm, camping, sports, and spending time with his family.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Bob are his five children, Karyn Price, John (Maurya) Smith, Diane Smith, Dan (John McAninch) Smith, and Andrew (Jane) Smith; five grandchildren, Tiffany (Cameron) Anderson, Samantha (Billy) Wellman, Zachary (Heather) Smith, Taylor (Mason Patterson) Smith, and Blair (Rhett) Hiestand; his great-grandchildren, Brecken Anderson, Zayden Anderson, Calvin Laughlin, Winnie Laughlin, Emmett Anderson, Bo Wellman, Baker Wellman, Pennie Wellman, Raegan Smith, Brooklynn Patterson, Baby Patterson, Maverick Hiestand and Maggie Hiestand; along with one nephew and two nieces.
He was preceded by his parents, Everett and Fannie (Fennig) Smith; his wife, Helen Marie (Henning) Smith; one sister, Betty Thrall; and one brother, Hugh Smith.
Funeral services for Bob will be at 11:00 am Monday, September 21, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church in Bedford with Pastor Terry Brammer officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am-11:00 am, also at the First United Methodist Church in Bedford.
Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford has been entrusted with Bob’s care and arrangements.
