Brett Herald, 68, of Bloomfield, passed away on September 10, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Brett was born in Linton, Indiana, on August 1, 1958, to Eulas and Roberta Herald. He was the youngest of four children and the only boy, growing up with three older sisters who loved him dearly and will miss him very much.
Brett was no stranger to a hard day’s work. After retiring from General Electric, he continued working as the property manager for Hutton-Bruce Acres, a job he took great pride in. He was proud to be someone that others could depend on and trust.
Above all, he loved his children and grandchildren more than anything and cherished every moment spent with them. He was a wonderful dad and grandpa who was always there for his family, and they knew they could count on him no matter what. Being a dad and grandpa brought Brett some of his greatest joy.
Brett was also the kind of friend people could count on—loyal, trustworthy, and always willing to be there when someone needed him. His friendship meant a great deal to many, and those fortunate enough to call Brett a friend knew they had a true one.
Brett had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Whether he was riding his Harley or working on a build of his own, he loved the unmistakable rumble of a Harley, the craftsmanship behind every build, and the feeling that came with firing one up and hitting the road.
Brett is survived by his partner, Shirley Smith; his two children, Megan Herald (Jared Reuter) of Bloomfield and Jed Herald of Bloomfield; his three grandchildren, Marlee Maze of Bloomfield, McKinley Herald of Bloomington, and Beau Reuter of Bloomfield; and his three sisters, Linda Eernisse (Allen) of Solsberry, Ruthann Floyd (Fred) of Bloomfield, and Susie Price (Larry) of Solsberry. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and his beloved pets, Roxie, his dog, and Claudia, his cat.
Brett was preceded in death by his parents, Eulas and Roberta Herald.
In accordance with Brett’s wishes, cremation will take place, and no formal services are planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial donations be made to the Greene County Humane Society in Brett’s name.Â
