INDIANA – Federal safety regulators have issued an urgent safety alert for thousands of hair styling tools sold nationwide on Amazon, warning that the products lack mandatory safety features and pose severe risks of electrocution, shock, and thermal burns.
The recall, announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on September 10, targets approximately 2,295 units of Wantefully Hair Dryer Brushes. Manufactured by China-based Guang Zhou, the 2-in-1 hot air brushes were sold online via Amazon.com between February and March 2026 for around $30.
According to CPSC violation notices, the styling tools fail to meet federal safety regulations because they lack an integrated immersion protection device. Immersion protection plugs automatically shut off electrical power if a plugged-in appliance contacts water.
Without this built-in safety cutoff, the devices present a substantial hazard of death or severe injury from electrocution or shock if dropped into water or used near sink basins. Additionally, the unit housing is prone to severe overheating, creating a secondary burn and fire hazard. At least one consumer has reported an incident where the styling brush overheated and melted during use.
Product Identification and Recall Remedy
The recall covers three marketed titles under model number XR-8801: the Wantefully 2 in 1 Hair Dryer & Styler, One Step Hair Dryer Brush Straightener, and Negative Ion Electric Hot Air Blow Dryer Comb.
- Appearance: Black hot-air paddle brushes featuring a striped pink design on the barrel and three distinct heat settings.
- Packaging Identifiers: “XRUI” and the model number “XR-8801” are printed on the top of the outer product box.
Consumers using these styling tools are urged to immediately unplug and stop using them. To receive a full refund, buyers must render the unit permanently unusable by cutting the power cord, then email a photo of the destroyed product alongside their contact details to the manufacturer Guang Zhou at wantefully@163.com.
