JASPER — Vincennes University has appointed Dr. Travis Madison as its new Assistant Vice President and Dean of the Vincennes University Jasper Campus following a comprehensive national search.
Dr. Madison, who brings more than 30 years of public education experience to the leadership role, currently serves as the superintendent of New Albany-Floyd County Schools. University officials noted that his extensive background in K-12 administration, workforce preparation, dual credit offerings, and career and technical education will play a critical role in furthering VU Jasper’s mission throughout southwestern Indiana.
A Career Built in Indiana Education
A native of Washington, Indiana, Dr. Madison spent 21 years with Barr-Reeve Community Schools in Daviess County, serving first as a middle and high school principal before taking over as superintendent. During his tenure at Barr-Reeve, the district regularly earned Indiana Four Star School honors and achieved National Blue Ribbon School distinction in 2017.
His career in education began as an English teacher and coach before transitioning into administrative roles, including assistant principal and athletic director at White River Valley Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville, master’s and specialist degrees from Indiana State University, and a Doctorate of Education.
Transition and Strategic Focus
Dr. Madison’s experience aligns closely with VU Jasper’s focus on expanding local partnerships with area school districts, regional employers, and community organizations to build strong career and academic pathways for students.
“He brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep understanding of the educational landscape in southwestern Indiana,” university leadership noted during the announcement, highlighting his proven track record of strengthening regional education pipelines.
Dr. Madison will officially conclude his duties with New Albany-Floyd County Schools later this month and assume his new position at the Vincennes University Jasper Campus on September 28, 2026.
