Geopolitical Conflicts Strain Global Supply

Analysts attribute the sudden price hikes to escalating international conflicts and global supply disruptions.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy

“Average gasoline and diesel prices rose in every state over the last week as geopolitical tensions escalated on multiple fronts, with friction between the U.S. and Iran, new hostilities in the Red Sea, and the shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline all combining to jolt prices sharply higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

De Haan added that weekend attacks on two additional Russian refineries have further strained global refined product supplies. While refiners typically transition to cheaper winter-blend fuel around this time of year, analysts warn that ongoing supply disruptions make significant price relief unlikely for motorists in the near term.
