ELLETTSVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence scored twice in the first half, doing just enough early work to clip Edgewood 2-1 during boys high school soccer action on Monday.
The Stars (4-7 with back-to-back wins) took advantage of a penalty kick by Raiden Todd for the go-ahead goal with 10:13 left in the half, and BNL’s defense denied any comeback by the Mustangs (3-5).
BNL struck first on Harper Edwards’ goal off an Ezra Clark assist at 20:36. Edgewood countered with Kade Gilchrist’s goal at 17:12, but Todd converted the penalty (his second career goal). The Stars had five other shots hit the post while recording a 12-5 advantage in shots.
“We’re proud of the team and they played hard,” BNL coach Reeve Arce said. “We dominated the first half, hitting the post four times.
“The team came out a little slow in the second half, reverting to old kickball soccer instead of maintaining possession. I did not like how we played the second half, but hats off to our young Stars as they fought all the way until the end.”
BNL will visit Jeffersonville on Saturday.
