Lawrence County Commissioners approve Mental Health App for Sheriff’s Department

BEDFORD The Lawrence County Commissioners approved a new mental health initiative aimed at supporting local law enforcement officers and department staff during their meeting on Tuesday.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Major Brandon Blackwell presented a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to adopt the Magnus One Wellness Program. The specialized platform provides comprehensive mental health, wellness, and peer support resources tailored specifically to the high-stress demands placed on law enforcement personnel and first responders.

Following the commissioners’ approval of the MOU, the department will roll out the program’s mobile application to its personnel.

The first year of the program will be fully funded through a grant, bringing no initial cost to county taxpayers. Following the trial period, if the Sheriff’s Department chooses to renew the service contract, the $7,500 annual renewal fee will be covered using inmate commissary funds rather than the county’s general budget.
