BEDFORD — With temperatures continuing to reach the 90s, residents have a welcoming place to take advantage of a local cooling center offering a safe, air-conditioned place to escape the heat.
The Men’s Warming Shelter, located at 1414 H St. in Bedford, is open as a cooling center today, Friday, September 4, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cooling center will be open on days when the temp tops 90 degrees.
Despite the shelter’s name, anyone is welcome to use the cooling center and its available resources.
Visitors can stop by to:
- Cool off in air conditioning
- Enjoy a meal or snack
- Take a refreshing shower
- Get a cold bottle of water
- Relax and recharge
During open hours, the shelter’s food pantry, showers, laundry center, clothing closet, and case management offices are also available.
Visitors can also make use of the lounge, dining area, game area and computer centers, providing a safe and supportive place to spend time during the heat.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the cooling center today before it closes at 7 p.m. and to share the information with friends, family members, neighbors, or anyone who may need a cool and comfortable place to spend time during the sweltering heat.
As temperatures remain dangerously high, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks from the heat, and check on those who may be especially vulnerable to high temperatures.
