COLUMBUS – Bedford North Lawrence swept the doubles while sliding past Columbus East 3-2 during boys high school tennis action on Monday.
The Stars (4-1) won a three-set battle at No.2 doubles while remaining undefeated on the road.
Cruz Gomez and Riley Pruett went the distance to complete a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 comeback win over Drew Larson and Carson Hartsook at No.2 doubles, while Jackson Corey and Asher Thompson won a second-set tiebreaker to fend off Trevor Ernst and Ritvik Prithiviraj 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) at No.1.
“Doubles is still going strong,” BNL coach Ian Dillman said. “Both doubles are learning the importance of starting strong and ending strong. There was some hiccups in these matches, but both teams were able to find their game and secure their victory.”
Levi Thompson, a freshman, posted the third win for the Stars with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Micah Wettschurack at No.3 singles.
“Levi was as solid as ever,” Dillman said. “He told me he didn’t need any help, and he was striking the ball with precision. He is growing on the court and it is showing.”
The Olympians won the top two singles. Landon Reddleman took an opening tiebreaker to clip Laedon Jones 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No.1, while Kai Bergman stopped Aden Ralston 6-0, 6-0 at No.2.
“It was not an easy win, but I’m happy to still walk away with this win,” Dillman said. “The guys fought hard and I couldn’t be happier. East is starting to climb up the rankings in the conference, and we have to stay one step ahead of the game.”
The Stars will host Jennings County on Tuesday.
