SEYMOUR — Schneck Medical Center is celebrating a wave of major national accolades. The Seymour-based healthcare system recently earned top marks from Forbes, secured its fifth elite Magnet® designation for nursing, and saw its chief executive appointed to a prominent national governance role.
Forbes Names Schneck a 5-Star Hospital
In Forbes’ inaugural Top Hospitals by State list, Schneck Medical Center was named one of the top hospitals in the nation, earning the publication’s highest possible five-star rating.
Developed in collaboration with healthcare measurement experts, the evaluation assessed roughly 5,400 U.S. hospitals using data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Provider Data Catalog. Ratings measured critical performance metrics including:
- Patient outcomes (accounting for more than half of the overall score)
- Hospital best practices
- Care value
- Overall patient experience
Nationwide, only 259 hospitals achieved a five-star score. Schneck stands out as one of just six Indiana hospitals to make the elite tier, alongside regional peers such as MHP Major Hospital in Shelbyville.

Gold Standard: 5th Consecutive Magnet® Nursing Distinction
Adding to its clinical honors, Schneck was again awarded the prestigious Magnet® designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Considered the gold standard for nursing excellence, fewer than 10% of hospitals across the country meet the rigorous standards required for Magnet status.
Schneck is one of only 16 hospitals in Indiana currently holding the honor, which recognizes sustained excellence in nursing leadership, interprofessional collaboration, and quality patient care. Notably, this marks the fifth consecutive time Schneck has earned the designation—a rare milestone achieved by less than 1% of hospitals nationwide.
CEO Dr. Eric Fish Appointed to AHA Board of Trustees
Schneck’s leadership is also making waves on the national stage. Dr. Eric Fish, President and CEO of Schneck Medical Center, was recently elected to serve a three-year term on the American Hospital Association (AHA) Board of Trustees.
As part of the AHA’s highest policymaking body, Dr. Fish is one of seven healthcare leaders selected to guide governance, strategic direction, and advocacy efforts for hospitals and health systems across the United States.
The latest wave of recognitions builds on an established track record of quality achievements for the Seymour community. Schneck’s specialized services—including its Home Health and Hospice programs—have consistently earned national accolades, alongside top performance honors from The Chartis Center for Rural Health for rural health leadership and clinical outcomes.
