INDIANAPOLIS — Members and volunteers from Special Olympics Jackson County will test their strength Saturday at the Indianapolis International Airport, attempting to pull an 82-ton FedEx Boeing cargo jet to raise funds for the organization.
The annual Plane Pull Challenge, held at the FedEx Express World Hub at 2475 S. Hoffman Road, serves as Special Olympics Indiana’s largest single-day fundraiser. Among the 57 registered teams is Jackson County’s “We’re So Fly,” a county program division entry composed of local athletes and volunteers.
Starting at 1 p.m., teams of up to 15 people will take turns attempting to pull the aircraft 12 feet in the fastest time. Each participating group is required to raise a minimum of $1,200 to compete.
The family-friendly event is free and open to the public. In addition to the competition, attendees can access food trucks, a police car and fire truck exhibition, a 360-degree photo booth, face painting, balloon animals, and a craft tent.
