BEDFORD — The Hoosier National Forest and the Bedford Public Library have teamed up to bring science- and nature-themed programming to adults in the greater Lawrence County area.
Dubbed the “Science and Nature Café,” these one-hour presentations have featured speakers who specialize in Indiana’s natural resources. Previous topics have included the value of oak trees, the story of Smokey Bear, the science of archaeology, and the fascinating caves and karst of southern Indiana.
The 2026 series will end August 6 with a presentation at 6:00 p.m. on the “Conservation of the Cerulean Warbler” by Ed Oehlman of the American Bird Conservancy. The Southern Indiana Cerulean Warbler BirdScape was recently launched as a collaborative effort with experts from more than two dozen organizations across the Americas to help protect and manage cerulean warbler habitats. The oak-dominated forests of south-central Indiana are a stronghold for this declining songbird. Participants will discover the many ways this partnership is having direct impacts to help curb the rapid decline of cerulean warbler and other woodland birds.
