Lawrence County railroad crossing repairs completed

BEDFORD — Railroad crossing repairs across Lawrence County have been completed, according to Lawrence County Highway Department Superintendent Brian Sowder.

Sowder announced Friday that he has been informed all railroad crossings included in the recent CSX Transportation repair project are now complete, bringing an end to a week of intermittent road closures that affected motorists throughout the county.

The announcement follows the start of the countywide maintenance project earlier this week, when CSX crews began repairing and repaving numerous railroad crossings. At the time, county officials said they had not been provided with an advance work schedule, making it difficult to notify residents about which crossings would be closed on a given day.

During the project, the Lawrence County Highway Department worked to obtain updates from CSX and advised motorists that closure information would be shared as it became available.

With the work now finished, normal traffic has resumed at the repaired crossings throughout Lawrence County.
