Social Security Administration announces new online tools and notices for disability claims

BALTIMORE, MD — The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced major enhancements to its my Social Security portal, expanding digital self-service options and electronic notices for individuals navigating the disability claims and appeals process.

The update is designed to give claimants real-time visibility into their cases, speed up communications, and create a smoother administrative workflow.

Key Enhancements to my Social Security

  • Online Form Submissions: Claimants can now complete and submit key disability adjudication forms directly through their personal accounts. Supported forms include:
    • Form HA-4631: Recent Medical Treatment
    • Form HA-4632: Medication Information
    • Form HA-4633: Work Background
  • Expanded Claim Status Tracking: Real-time tracking and processing time estimates are now available at the Hearings and Appeals levels. Users can track key milestones, including when a hearing office receives a request, case preparation progress, decision issuances, and Appeals Request for Review statuses.
  • Secure Proffer Letter Access: Claimants can view proffer letters—notices sent when new evidence is added after a hearing—directly in their my Social Security Message Center, giving them an opportunity to review and respond before a final decision is made.
  • 26 Digital Hearing Notices: Accountholders can now access electronic copies of 26 hearing-related notices online, including Notices of Hearing, Postponements, Claimant Questionnaires, and On the Record Notices.

Streamlining the Appeals Process

The digital-first strategy aims to eliminate the need for hearing offices to make manual outbound phone calls, allowing adjudicators to focus on reviewing cases more efficiently.

“Our digital-first approach to service is now extending to disability through the Claim Status Tracker, expansion of digital notices, and online document submission, enabling SSA to deliver better outcomes for the American people,” said Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano. “By making more tools available online, we are empowering claimants to stay informed and manage their Social Security benefits with greater ease and confidence.”

Chief of Disability Adjudication Jay Ortis added that the updates will empower claimants to promptly respond to critical developments throughout the hearing process while streamlining overall agency operations.

Availability and Notifications

Claimants can choose to receive email or text alerts whenever new documents or notices are available in their online Message Center. To ensure access is not restricted, paper notices will continue to be sent via traditional mail to claimants and their appointed representatives.

The my Social Security platform currently serves over 100 million Americans, offering 24/7 access to retirement benefit estimates, 1099 forms, replacement card requests, and application status checks.
