Community Foundation Partnership – Lawrence County awards $37,708 in grants for disadvantaged elderly

LAWRENCE COUNTY – The Community Foundation Partnership – Lawrence County Board of Directors approved grants totaling $37,708 to seven non-profit organizations from the Margie Marie Pennington Fund for the Elderly. The grants target fundamental areas of need and projects improving the quality of life for our elderly population.

The Margie Marie Pennington Fund is a charitable fund that was established in 2014 through Margie Pennington’s estate plans. Margie established the fund to assist disadvantaged elderly and homeless elderly individuals in Lawrence County, even though she had moved away from the county when she was 19.

The Lawrence County Museum of History and Edward L. Hutton Research Library received a $21,708.36 Pennington Grant for their project “Light Up Your World.” The grant will replace the current halogen lighting with LED lighting, improving visibility for seniors and visitors with sight disabilities and helping preserve museum artifacts.

“In honor of Margie Pennington’s wishes, these grants provide focused financial assistance to programs or projects in our area that benefit our elderly population,” said Bradford Dykes, CFP-LC Grants Committee Chair. “Margie’s special gift to the Community Foundation enriches the lives of seniors who are facing challenges in their elder years of life.”
