LOOGOOTEE — City officials in Loogootee are getting an early jump on holiday planning, turning to residents to help shape the community’s upcoming Christmas schedule.
The City of Loogootee has launched an online community poll to gauge public interest in bringing back its popular free synthetic ice skating rink this December.
Through the online survey, community members can vote on three options:
- Bringing back the synthetic ice rink for another season
- Replacing the rink with a different holiday attraction
- Indicating no preference
City leaders noted that resident responses will directly influence which attractions, entertainment, and family-friendly events receive funding and planning priority for this year’s seasonal line-up.
A Growing Holiday Tradition Downtown
The synthetic ice rink has become a hallmark feature of Loogootee’s expanding winter festivities in recent years. Set up downtown at the Pavilion near the city’s landmark 40-foot Christmas tree, the temporary rink has historically offered free skating and free skate rentals over a full weekend in mid-December.
The initiative is part of broader downtown quality-of-life efforts spearheaded by city leadership and the Loogootee Beautification Board. Over the past few seasons, the city has transformed its downtown core into a regional holiday hub, anchoring December weekends with events like the annual Gobble Wobble 5K, the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the “Dashing Through Loogootee” Parade, live reindeer visits, and local artisan vendor strolls.
Community members interested in casting their vote on the ice rink or offering suggestions for alternative winter activities can access the poll on the official City of Loogootee communication channels and community social media pages.
