Sleep Out, Speak Out event to raise awareness and support for Becky’s Place in Bedford

BEDFORD – Residents are invited to spend a night outdoors later this month in support of women and children experiencing homelessness during the annual Sleep Out, Speak Out for Becky’s Place.

The overnight awareness and fundraising event will be held rain or shine on Friday, July 31, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on the grounds of Bedford First Church of God, 3131 16th St., Bedford. Bathroom facilities will be available for participants.

The free community event is designed to raise awareness of the challenges faced by women and children experiencing homelessness while supporting the mission of Becky’s Place, which provides shelter and assistance to women and children in crisis.

Participants are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag and spend the night outdoors in solidarity with those who experience housing insecurity. Snacks, coffee, and other beverages will be available throughout the evening.

Organizers emphasize that community members do not have to stay the entire night to participate. Those who are only able to stop by for part of the evening are also encouraged to attend and show their support.

In addition to raising awareness, the event serves as a fundraiser for Becky’s Place. Churches, schools, businesses, and groups of friends are encouraged to create fundraising teams to help provide financial support for the organization’s programs and services benefiting women and children in need.

Donors also have the option of making contributions through donor-advised funds, individual retirement account charitable distributions, or gifts of stock. Those interested in these giving opportunities may contact Cheri Bush at cbush@archindy.org or by calling (317) 236-1411.
