BEDFORD — Bedford City Utilities has announced its tentative biannual fire hydrant flushing schedule, which is set to run through Thursday night, July 16, 2026.

The maintenance work is conducted overnight to minimize localized disruptions. However, officials note that the timeline remains subject to change if a specific day’s work is delayed or in the event of inclement weather. Residents are reminded that if weather conditions turn bad, the scheduled flushing will be canceled.
Consumer Advisory for Tap Water
During flushing operations, local water customers may notice fluctuations in water pressure and temporary discoloration of their tap water. City utilities advise the following precautions:
- Clear the Lines: If your water appears discolored, run your cold water tap until it flows completely clear.
- Postpone Laundry: It is highly recommended that customers postpone washing laundry until the water has cleared to prevent staining.
- Limit Hot Water: Residents should limit the use of hot water until the cold water lines run clear to avoid drawing sediment into water heaters.
