Loogootee woman arrested after entering home uninvited, Police find her with methamphetamine

BEDFORD — A Loogootee woman who appeared highly disoriented and believed she was in a different county was arrested Monday night, June 22, 2026, after allegedly entering a local home uninvited and attempting to break into a vehicle.

Kacrissa Jo Salmon, 34, of Loogootee, was taken into custody by the Bedford Police Department. She faces preliminary criminal charges of possession of methamphetamine and residential entry.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Sergeant Nick Crulo, the incident began at approximately 7:28 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of 33rd Street. A resident had called 911 to report that a dark-haired female wearing a gray shirt and black shorts was actively attempting to open the door of a neighbor’s parked vehicle.

While Sgt. Crulo was en route, emergency dispatchers received a second 911 call from a nearby home in the 2200 block of 33rd Street, stating the same woman was now aggressively knocking on their front door.

Upon arriving in the neighborhood, Sgt. Crulo spoke briefly with the initial caller, who pointed out the vehicle the suspect had targeted and noted that she had walked westward over a hill. Sgt. Crulo located the woman sitting in a chair in the front yard of the 2200 block of 33rd Street.

When questioned, the woman initially gave officers a false name, identifying herself as “Kacrissa Lintz” with a birthdate of September 28, 1991. Computer checks failed to find any record under that name.

Sgt. Crulo noted that the woman’s movements were “very quick and unpredictable,” and her legs were heavily covered in black paint. Furthermore, she exhibited extreme geographical confusion:

  • She repeatedly stated that she believed she was currently in Washington, Indiana (Daviess County).
  • She claimed she was sitting outside her father’s house.
  • She stated she had been camping the previous night at Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area in Daviess County, but had no idea how she arrived in Bedford.

She eventually provided her true Indiana driver’s license number, identifying her legally as Kacrissa Jo Salmon. Due to her profound confusion and erratic behavior, Sgt. Crulo requested an ambulance to the scene to conduct a medical evaluation.

While waiting for the arrival of IU Health EMS, Sgt. Crulo noticed an anomalous, large bulge in Salmon’s front right shorts pocket. When asked about the item, Salmon pulled the contents out of her pocket without being requested to do so.

Among the items she pulled out was a clear, zip-top plastic baggie containing a shard-like crystal substance. Upon realizing what she had revealed, Salmon grew highly erratic and began talking rapidly. Sgt. Crulo seized the baggie and secured it in his patrol unit.

While medics evaluated Salmon, determining she did not require emergency hospitalization, dispatch received a third 911 call from another neighbor on 33rd Street.

Sgt. Crulo interviewed the third caller, who reported that Salmon had walked through her back door completely uninvited. She stated that Salmon did not knock, lacked permission to be there, and stood inside the house before leaving on her own accord without further incident.

Following her medical clearance, Salmon was read her Miranda rights by responding Officer Manke. Salmon claimed she had knocked on the door and that a female had opened it, and she denied attempting to enter any vehicles.

Salmon was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where she was remanded to the custody of the Lawrence County Sheriff.

The crystal substance recovered from her pocket field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The evidence was photographed, packaged, and logged into the Bedford Police Department evidence safe.
