Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County staff undergo intensive summer safety and leadership training

BEDFORD — As summer programs peak and preparations begin for the upcoming school year, the leadership and operational team at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County is spending significant time outside the classroom to enhance their skills.

The organization recently launched its comprehensive summer staff training initiative, a program designed to ensure that frontline youth workers are equipped with advanced safety, health, and leadership certifications.

“Meaningful impact doesn’t happen by accident,” the Club shared in a statement regarding the development program. “It starts with investing in the people who make that impact possible each day.”

Expanding Beyond Basic Programming

While developing engaging program plans and learning activities remains a core focus of the summer, the specialized training curriculum digs much deeper into the mechanics of professional youth mentorship.

Staff members are currently completing advanced coursework focused on:

  • Youth Development Theory: Understanding the psychological, emotional, and social needs of local children across different age brackets.
  • Behavior Management: Learning positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies to handle conflict or behavioral challenges safely and constructively.
  • Creating Positive Experiences: Building an inclusive, high-energy environment where every Club member feels safe, valued, and motivated to learn.

Critical Safety and Health Credentials

To guarantee that the club’s facilities remain safe environments, the summer training program mandates several key health certifications.

Every participating staff member is currently earning their formal CPR and First Aid certification, preparing the team to respond instantly and effectively to medical emergencies or playground accidents. Additionally, personnel are completing comprehensive food safety training. This certification ensures that the thousands of free meals and snacks distributed to Lawrence County youth through the after-school and summer programs meet strict public health and sanitation standards.

By sharpening these skills, the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County aims to elevate the standard of care provided to hundreds of local families, ensuring its team is prepared for any situation that arises.
