Becky’s Place welcomes volunteers and essential donations to empower families

BEDFORD Becky’s Place, a local non-profit shelter dedicated to providing safe refuge and creating hope for women and children experiencing homelessness, is looking for community volunteers and essential supply donations to help support its mission of fostering long-term self-sufficiency.

Operating under Catholic Charities Bloomington, the 24-hour facility provides comprehensive services, including emergency shelter, case management, counseling, and life skills classes. As residents work to overcome homelessness and build stable, independent lives, community involvement is critical to their long-term success.

Urgent Need for Transition and Transportation Volunteers

The shelter is actively seeking dedicated volunteers to assist residents as they transition into their new homes and navigate their daily routines. Key volunteer opportunities include providing vital transportation to and from court appointments, doctor visits, and employment obligations.

Those interested in volunteering can attend the regular volunteer meetings, which take place on the last Monday of every month at the Stonegate Arts Center. For more details or to sign up, prospective volunteers can contact Savannah Kidwell, Volunteer Coordinator, via email at skidwell@ccbin.org.

Donation Shed Open Daily: Consistent Supply Needs

In addition to volunteer support, Becky’s Place relies on community contributions to keep its facilities running efficiently. The shelter operates a donation shed that faces its parking lot, which is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The shelter currently has consistent, ongoing needs for the following household and hygiene items:

  • Toilet paper
  • Laundry soap
  • Paper towels
  • Garbage bags
  • Standard cleaning supplies

The donation shed also accepts seasonal clothing, small household items (such as dishes, microwaves, rugs, and decor), and personal hygiene supplies. Financial gifts and endowment contributions can be made securely online via the official Catholic Charities website to support the shelter’s long-term operations.

Becky’s Place is located at 1108 5th Street, Bedford, IN 47421. For general inquiries or immediate assistance, the shelter can be reached directly by calling 812-275-5773.
